Arts Clayton Interim Executive Director and Chief Curator Brian Hebert has been officially appointed to the position, the Executive Committee of Arts Clayton announced today. Hebert, an award-winning art educator, artist, curator, and gallery director, was named Interim Executive Director in July 2021.
“In just a few months under Brian’s leadership, Arts Clayton has reinvented itself in our service to the community,” said Arts Clayton Board Director Lisa Barney. “Brian’s vigor for organizing multi-cultural exhibitions, jazz nights, and other programming have brought us together,” she added. “He has also reignited our partnership with the Clayton County Public School System, a crucial link to the arts for Clayton County youth.”
Barney cited new partnerships with the Clayton County Boys & Girls Club, Clayton County Senior Services, local small businesses, and nonprofits as other examples of Hebert’s energy, commitment, and ability to forge relationships.
“We are excited that Brian is embracing the full range of artistic expression, going beyond visual and fine arts,” said Dennis Kerce, Arts Clayton Board Member and General Manager of Allan Vigil Ford & Lincoln. “We will continue to support Brian in his new position.”
Arts Clayton features contemporary arts education programs, quality visual arts programming through exhibitions, visual and performing arts collaborations, and special classes and workshops in various media and genres of art for children, teens, adults, and seniors at Arts Clayton Gallery in downtown Jonesboro.
“I am honored to be named Executive Director,” Hebert said. “I thank the Executive Committee and Board for their confidence and for giving me this great opportunity,” he added. “Our work and our successes are group efforts, and everyone plays a critical role.”
Hebert says his priorities include a commitment to diversity and inclusion in regional artistic development and expression. “I look forward to engaging a greater range of artists and community members while collaborating with our business and civic leaders,” he added.
A graduate of Southern University A&M College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Brian spent 18 years with the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture. He aided in the startup of the Southwest Arts Center in SW Atlanta as the Arts Education Coordinator in Visual Arts, serving as Gallery Director. In addition, Brian is an experienced art teacher, having worked with elementary students in the Henry County Public School System.
