Rising Atlanta Home Prices Make Clayton County Homes More Attractive than Ever

Hotlanta is getting hotter and home prices are rising! First Multiple Listing Service’s InfoSparks data reports home prices in Metro Atlanta climbed 6.6 percent last year, with another 6.3 percent increase so far in 2019.

Rental rates are also going up. Atlanta’s one-bedroom rentals are 18 percent more expensive than the national average, with a one-bedroom averaging $1,350 per month and a two-bedroom, $1,700.

Affordability may be a top concern for anyone looking for a place to live in Atlanta. Will your income cover housing and living expenses, allow you to save, and still cover non-essential items? The 50-30-20 rule — a well-established yardstick for income distribution — states that 50 percent of your take-home income should go to housing and necessities such as utilities, food, and transportation; 20 percent should be earmarked for savings; and 30 percent allocated for flexible, non-essential spending.
